Reasons to See a Podiatrist

The feet are one of the most neglected parts of the body even though they probably take the most punishment on a daily basis.

Most foot conditions can easily be resolved by a podiatrist, a medical professional who specialises in the treatment of feet.

Here are some of the most common reasons you might seek a podiatry consultation:

1. You struggle to cut your toenails. You might have mobility issues and are unable to reach your nails or your nails might be thick and difficult to cut.
2. You have one or more ingrown toenails.
3. You have persistent athlete’s foot or a fungal nail condition that over-the-counter preparations are not clearing up.
4. You have a persistent or recurring verruca.
5. You have other issues that cause discomfort or pain such as corns, callouses or bunions.
6. You suffer from foot pain and need professional footwear advice.
7. You have flat feet and need a podiatrist’s advice on orthotics.
8. You have plantar fasciitis.
9. You have unexplained foot pain that your GP has not been able to diagnose.
10. You need total foot care.

If you have any of the above conditions, it is better to see a podiatrist than your GP who would, in many cases simply refer you to a podiatrist anyway.
